Miért fontos a mudi standard megtartása?

Avagy miért ellenezzünk az 50 éves, 238 sz. FCI standard módosítását.

A mudi vitathatatlanul nemzeti kincseink közé tartozik. Fő erőssége temperamentuma, mely évszázadokon át kiváló terelőkutyává tette, és a 21. században alkalmassá teszi a legkülönfélébb kutyás elfoglaltságra/sportra és világszerte megkedveltette a fajtát a kutyaszerető emberekkel. Temperamentuma alapjául robbanékony alkata szolgál, régen a juhász csizmaszáráig ért a kis pásztorkutya, melyet 38-47 cm-es magasságban határoztak meg. Csont és izomrendszere ehhez a magassághoz alkalmazkodott: az izmos és sportos kutyák súlya nem haladja meg a 15 kg-ot.

Amennyiben a súly és magasság határokat megemeljük, megváltoztatjuk az évszázadok során kialakult ideális arányokat, így mind a kutya mozgásában, mind megjelenésében rontunk az egyensúlyon. Funkcionálisan lomhább kutyát kapunk, mely megjelenésében szintén a vastagcsontú robosztus alkat felé hajlik, mely tradicionálisan fajtaidegen. Nagy jövője akkor lehet a mudinak, ha megmarad közepes termetű juhászkutyának, hiszen csont és izomrendszere is „erre van méretezve”.

Ezek a méretbeli változások, ha az esztétikai és kinológiai vetülettől el is tekintünk, azért kimondottan előnytelenek, mert napjainkban a mudi népszerűsítését a kutyás sportok terén lehetne elérni, mely mind a fajta, mind a tenyésztők számára előnyös lenne. A sport célra eladott kutyák jövője szorosan visszakövethető, mind küllemi, mind temperamentumbeli, mind egészségügyi szempontból, így a tenyésztőknek lehetőségük van az általuk eladott kutyák nagy hányadát figyelve több információ alapján tervezni a következő generációt, mely egyértelműen a fajta javára szolgál.

A színekről pár szóban. Sajnos a mudi még jelenleg is kis létszámú populációt alkot, melyet ha bővíteni szeretnénk, a legjobb megoldás a jó és megbízható minőség (testfelépítés, külső megjelenés és temperamentum) biztosítása. Abban az esetben, ha új, sokszor a fajtától idegen színeket adunk hozzá, melyeket nevezhetünk bárhogy, mégis valamilyen hiba (régen történt vagy újonnan idegen fajta „bekeverése”) okozza, és ha a „hibát” legalizáljuk, felhígítjuk a fajtát, ami nem számbeli növekedést, népszerűsödést, hanem épp ellenkezőleg az önálló fajta eltűnését okozhatja. Hiszen ha a kevés egyed rendkívül heterogén, mi alapján különítjük el őket?

Hibák előfordulhatnak, de hibára való tenyésztés nem előre mutató elképzelés. Ezt sajnálatos módon már most is láthatjuk azokon a standardtól idegen színű egyedeken, melyek színükön kívül más fajtaidegen jellemzőket is hordoznak, mint például a burkolt fej vagy szélesen tűzött fülek.

A fentiek alapján indokolatlannak, sőt kontraindikáltnak tartom a fajtastandard módosítását és nagyon kérem, minél többen csatlakozzanak ehhez az állásfoglaláshoz, hogy megvédhessük egyik nagyon értékes nemzeti kincsünket!

Why is it important to keep the old mudi standard?
or why are we against the modification of the 50 year old 238 No. FCI standard.

Undoubtedly, the mudi breed is our national treasure. The breed’s main strength is its temperament, which made them an excellent herding breed for centuries, and makes them suitable for all kinds of dog sports and activities today, as a result, they became a worldwide popular breed. Their courageous temperament is based upon an explosive character and appropriate body structure. The old mudi was as tall as the shepherd’s bootleg, which was defined in 37-48 centimeters. The skeletal and musculature have adapted to this height, a well muscled mudi weighs not more than 15 kilograms.

If we increase the height and weight limits, changing the ideal proportions formed during centuries, then we destroy the balance of both the appearance and movement of the dogs. Their funcionality suffers, and we are moving towards thick bones, robust structure, which is incompatible with the breed. The future of the mudi lies in its medium size, because their bones and muscles are not suitable for anything else.

The change of size, even if we do not take the aesthetics and cynology into account, is disadvantegous, because the best way to popularize any breed nowadays is by dog sports. A mudi, bigger than 43 cm has to jump 55-65 cm, while the smaller ones only 35-45 cm. For a dog, who is medium sized in terms of skeletal and musculature, jumping this high is very stressful and dangerous. Popularizing the mudi would be useful for the breed and for the breeders.  The future of the puppies sold for sports can be followed up easily in terms of appearance, temperament and health. Thus, breeders have the possibility to watch a greater amount of their offspring, having more information available, which can be useful in planning the next generation.  This clearly benefits the breed.

A few thoughts about the colours. Unfortunately, the mudi right now has a small population. If we want to extend it, the best way for doing that is by providing a good and reliable quality (in structure, appearance and temperament). In case we add new colours, (which are sometimes incompatible with the breed), that are present due to a fault (by mixing in different breeds, even if it happened in the past or in the present), and we legalize this fault, we are diluting the breed. It won’t result in growth of the population, on the contrary, it can cause an independent breed to disappear. If we have a small population, which is extremely heterogeneous, how do we define and separate them?

Faults can always occur, but breeding with faults on purpose is never a forward thinking idea. Unfortunately, we can already see some strange coloured dogs, which are not only faulty in colour, but carry other features, also incompatible with the breed, for example massive and broad head and widely set ears.

Based on the things mentioned above, I believe modification of the standard is causeless, even unindicated, so I ask all of you to join me in protecting our precious national treasure, the mudi!

Mudi gehört unwidersprechlich zu unserem Nationalschatz. Seine Hauptstärke ist sein Temperament, das ihn durch Jahrhunderte zu einem hervorragenden Hütehund machte und im 21. Jahrhundert macht ihn fähig verschiedene Hundesportarten zu treiben, deshalb ist er weltweit von hundeliebenden Menschen beliebt. Als Basis seines Temperaments dient sein explosiver Aufbau, früher war er nicht höher als der Schaft des Schäfers, also ca. 38-47 cm. Seine Knochen und Muskulatur haben zu dieser Höhe angepasst: die muskeligen und sportlichen Hunde sind nicht mehr als 15 kg.

Wenn wir die Gewicht- und Höhegrenzen erhöhen, ändern wir an dem idealen Verhältnis, so zerstören wir das Gleichgewicht sowohl in der Bewegung des Hundes, als auch in der Gestalt. Funktionell wird der Hund „bequemer“, der in seinem Aussehen robuster wird, es ist traditionell rassefremd. Eine große Zukunft wird dann der Mudi haben, wenn er ein mittelgroßer Hütehund bleibt, seine Knochen und Muskulatur sind auch dafür geeignet.

Diese Änderungen bei der Höhe und Gewicht abgesehen von der ästhetischen und kinologischen Projektion sind unvorteilhaft, weil wir heutzutage die Mudis mit Hilfe von Hundesportarten populär machen können. Es bedeutet Vorteile sowohl für die Züchter als auch für die Rasse. Die Zukunft der sporttreibenden Hunde kann man leicht folgen (in Hinsicht auf Aufsehen, Temperament und Gesundheit), so haben die Züchter die Möglichkeit, die von ihnen verkauften Hunden zu beobachten und die Informationen helfen ihnen bei der Planung der nächsten Generationen.

Über die Farben in einigen Wörtern. Leider bildet der Mudi heutzutage eine kleine Population, wir möchten es erweitern und die beste Lösung dafür ist eine gute und zuverlässige Qualität (Aufbau, Aussehen, Temperament). In dem Fall, wenn wir verschiedene neue Farben hinzugeben, die wegen einem Fehler präsent sind (Mischung mit einer anderen Rasse), weichen wir die Rasse auf, das kann das Verschwinden der Rasse verursachen.

Fehler können vorkommen, aber die auf Fehler gebaute Zucht ist keine gute Konzeption. Das kann man schon bei den Hunden in standardabweichenden Farben beobachten, sie haben auch andere rassefremdige Eigenschaften, z.B. verdeckter Kopf.

Also halte ich die Modifizierung des Rassestandards grundlos und ich bitte Sie sich zu dieser Stellungnahme anzuschliessen, so können wir zusammen unseren wichtigen Nationalschatz beschützen.
